Brain Disorder
Introduction to Brain Disorder in Ayurveda:
-
Role of Doshas in brain disorder:
- Ayurveda attributes mental health to the balance of doshas. Vata, as the dosha associated with movement and communication, is particularly important in the nervous system’s functioning. Imbalances in Vata can lead to various neurological and psychological disorders.
- Imbalances in any of the three doshas can contribute to mental health issues. For example, an excess of Vata may lead to anxiety, insomnia, and nervous system disorders, while Pitta imbalances may manifest as anger, irritability, and inflammatory conditions. Kapha imbalances can contribute to lethargy, depression, and a sense of heaviness.
-
Manas (Mind) and Atma (Soul):
- Ayurveda recognizes the interplay between the mind (Manas) and the soul (Atma) in mental health. The mind is considered the seat of consciousness and is closely connected to the overall well-being of an individual.
-
Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas in relation with Brain Disorder:
- Ayurveda also considers the Gunas—Sattva (clarity and purity), Rajas (activity and restlessness), and Tamas (inertia and dullness). A balanced mind is characterized by the predominance of Sattva, while imbalances in Rajas and Tamas can lead to mental disturbances.
-
Prana Vayu and Mental Energy in Brain Disorder:
- Prana Vayu, one of the five subtypes of Vata, is responsible for mental energy and communication within the nervous system. Disorders related to Prana Vayu can affect cognitive functions, memory, and overall mental clarity
Parkinsonism
Parkinson's disease is characterized by the gradual degeneration of certain nerve cells in the brain, particularly those involved in the production of dopamine—a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in coordinating smooth and controlled muscle movements.
Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects memory, cognitive function, and behavior. It is the most common cause of dementia, a syndrome characterized by a decline in memory, reasoning, and other cognitive abilities that interferes with daily life.
